Political, agricultural, civil, economical, famine, poverty, and the separation of the country into several little parts owned and run by warlords is making Somalia need financial aid by other countries. Somalia barely has any government. These warlords run almost the entire country. The warlords often fight against each other and several innocent people die because of this fighting. When other countries have tried to give Somalia aid with food and other supplies the warlords would take the supplies and distribute them to only the people they wanted to have the supplies. One of the several major issues that are occurring in Somalia is their government. Somalias government once was run by military leaders. They ran the government from 1969 to 1991. Then in 1991 a rebel group called the United Somalia Congress overthrew the harsh military government. The rebels believed that the military government was unfair and needed to leave. Then when the United Somalia Congress government became in charge of the Somalia, they could not hold the government up and the United Somalia Congress split into rival clan factions and fighting broke out in the capitol. Other rival groups took over parts of the country, and Somalia was left without a government. As of September 1991, Somalia is effectively under control of as many as twelve rival clans and sub clans. The major issue is affecting the entire country. The issue has been occurring since 1991 till present day. Somalia was left without a government because the rebels couldnt handle running the country a nd the government, and so the entire country fell into chaos. For some its the pound sign because it has been used by greengrocers as a symbol for pound on the little signs pricing fruit and vegetables: .75# (seventy-five cents a pound). For some its the tic-tac-toe sign because of the game that uses it as the playing area. Automated telephone systems instruct us to dial certain numbers, followed by the pound sign, a direction that confused me at first because I think of this symbol as the number sign. As if there werent already enough names for it, engineers at Bell have come up with an official moniker for it: the octothorpe. The octo part comes from the fact that the symbol has eight points. No one seems to be able to say with any certainty where the thorpe comes from. European phone companies, like British Telecom, call the symbol a square, a term apparently too simple for the North American telephone industry. On the other hand, rather than use the obvious word asterisk for that symbol on the dial, the telephone powers prefer to call it a star. Go figure. This describes the level of violence in Haiti and the oppressions plus sufferings they encountered. The author utilizes stylistic language to express the problems faced by the people (Munro 76). For example, she uses the vultures to explain how she spends nights without sleep listening and â€Å"counting bullets in the dark† (Munro 76).... Her baby succumbs to the hush conditions that she faces in the boat which leads her to great desperation. Eventually, the boat could not stay floating for long. In the children of the sea, the narrator utilizes first person narration to describe the violence and problems faced by in the story (Davis 74). Celline tells to her lover how she got pregnant from the ordeal with the macoutes. The author uses the phrase â€Å"cutting the face† to explain the action that Celine took to escape from her country. The narration creates a picture of the situation in Haiti due to the author’s use of styles such as symbolism. This enables her to convey her messages to the audience concerning the issue of oppression and the role of the women in the story (Davis 72). To express the pain in the society, the author utilizes crying as a symbol. The inhabitants of Haiti face problems and therefore cry. In addition, the author explains the lack of senses of the dead as Celine’s baby do es not cry. The butterflies in the story convey information that relates to the difficult situations presented by the narrator. For example, there was a black butterfly which indicated the death of the narrator (Braziel 77). Through the use of symbols and other styles, the author portrays the writing as an art.
